Woman’s Empowerment

Project Overview

Sri Lanka holds a significant place in South Asia, largely due to its deep-rooted lifestyle based on Buddhism and agriculture. This unique cultural blend shapes the everyday lives of its people, where traditions and values are closely tied to the land and spiritual beliefs. In Sri Lankan society, the housewife occupies a particularly important and respected position. She bears the responsibility of managing the household, ensuring the well-being of her family, and upholding cultural values. Her role is central to maintaining the harmony and stability of the family unit, making her an integral part of the country’s social fabric.

Waking up early to cook for everyone is the primary task of many Sri Lankan housewives. After ensuring the family is fed, educated, and cared for, they spend their day managing the household. In some cases, this routine can lead to mental strain, while others maintain a very active life. Our mission is to support these housewives, helping them improve their prospects and maintain a high mental well-being. By joining them in their daily lives, we aim to uplift and empower them, ensuring they lead fulfilling and balanced lives.

Here, you can join housewives in their daily cooking activities, experiencing the heart of Sri Lankan home life. Some housewives are also self-employed, creating various handicrafts from home. By participating in these activities, you can learn traditional skills while offering support. Partnering with these women not only allows you to share in their work but also helps uplift their mental well-being, creating a meaningful and mutually beneficial experience for both you and the housewives.

Location

We have prepared this program in Rabukkana village, located in the Kegalle District near the central mountains of Sri Lanka. This small village is nestled in a beautiful setting with a temperate climate and is home to warm and welcoming rural people. Known for producing the most delicious bananas, Rabukkana offers a unique experience where you can immerse yourself in the local culture while enjoying the scenic beauty of the area. The program allows you to engage with the community and experience the charm of this picturesque village.

Program Start
Every weekday, the program starts on Monday and ends after lunch on Friday. During these days, you'll have the opportunity to engage in various activities and immerse yourself in the local culture. Saturday and Sunday are your days off, providing you with the freedom to travel around Sri Lanka, explore its beauty, or simply relax at your accommodation. Whether you choose to discover new places or unwind, the weekends are yours to enjoy at your own pace.

Foods

During the five weekdays, all three meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are provided. However, on Saturday and Sunday, meals are not included, but you are welcome to stay in your accommodation for the weekend.

Accommodation

For this program, we offer the opportunity to stay with the same family you're helping in the village through our homestay program. You'll have a single room with an English-style bathroom. Please note that, for your safety, no other person can be brought into or accommodated in the provided accommodation. This arrangement ensures a safe and immersive experience while allowing you to fully engage with the local community and culture during your stay.
